I went and watched the Star Trek prequel yesterday starring Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Leonard Nimoy as Spock Prime, Karl Urban as Bones, Zoe Saladana as Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, John Cho as Sulu, Anton Yelchin as Chekov and Bruce Greenwood as Capt. Christopher Pike.

The film opens with the Federation starship USS Kelvin investigating a "lightning storm" in space. It turns out to be a black hole, and the Narada, a Romulan mining vessel, emerges from it and attacks. The Kelvin's captain, Richard Robau is captured and killed by the Romulan captain Nero. First officer George Kirk takes command and sacrifices himself and the Kelvin by ramming it into the Romulan ship in order to allow the rest of the crew to escape. During the escape, George's wife Winona gives birth to a son: James Tiberius Kirk.

About 22 years later, Kirk grows into an intelligent but reckless young man. He meets Uhura and Captain Christopher Pike in a bar in Iowa, where Pike convices Kirk to enlist in Starfleet Academy and follow in his father's footsteps. During his eventful education on Earth, he is suspended for cheating on the Kobayashi Maru designed by the half-Vulcan, half-human Spock. Despite this, Kirk is smuggled onboard the USS Enterprise by his friend, Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, as it is sent on its first mission to investigate a distress signal originating from the planet Vulcan; Captain Pike commands the ship, with Spock as his first officer, and Uhura is also assigned to the ship. En-route, Kirk realizes that the situation is similar to the one 25 years ago when his father died and, with the help of Uhura and McCoy, manages to convince Pike and Spock that the Enterprise is heading into a trap. When the Enterprise arrives, they find the rest of the Starfleet ships destroyed and Nero's ship, the Narada, using a drilling apparatus to tunnel to the planet's core. After promoting Spock to captain and Kirk to first officer, Pike surrenders to Nero, giving Kirk and Hikaru Sulu a chance to destroy the drill. Nevertheless, Nero destroys Vulcan with a small amount of "red matter", dropped into the planet's core, which creates a black hole that consumes the planet from within. Six billion of the Vulcan people die, including Spock's human mother, Amanda.

Nero puts the Narada on a course for Earth with the intention of destroying it. Kirk wants to follow Nero immediately, but Spock insists that the Enterprise should regroup with the fleet as per their orders. Spock has Kirk forcibly removed from the Enterprise and stranded on the nearby ice planet Delta Vega, only for him to be rescued by an aging Vulcan who reveals himself to be Ambassador Spock. This elderly Spock explains that, 120 years in the future, he tried to save the Romulan planet from being destroyed by a nearby supernova, using the red matter in his ship to create a black hole that would neutralise the threat. Though Spock did not complete his mission in time to save Romulusresulting in Nero's vow to take revenge on Spock and the Federationhe stopped the supernova, and the resulting black hole transported Spock's ship and the Narada into the past. Spock takes Kirk to a nearby Starfleet outpost and introduces him to Montgomery Scott, a master engineer and pioneer of transporter technology. Scott and Kirk are transported back to the Enterprise and, taking Ambassador Spock's advice, Kirk goads the younger Spock into attacking him and demonstrating that he is "emotionally compromised". As a result, Spock relieves himself of command; because Kirk is the next-highest ranking officer, he becomes the new captain of the Enterprise.

Captain Kirk takes the Enterprise to Earth, intending to stop the Narada on his own. Spock, Scott and math-whiz Pavel Chekov figure out a way to lie in wait for the Narada and beam aboard, allowing Kirk and Spock to stage a surprise attack. While Spock steals Ambassador Spock's captured ship and lures the Narada away from Earth, Kirk rescues Pike. With the assistance of the Enterprise, Spock then rams Ambassador Spock's ship into the Narada, detonating the red matter and creating a black hole that, aided by a full barrage of the Enterprise's weaponry, destroys the Narada completely. Kirk, Spock and Pike are rescued by the Enterprise via transporter, which is in turn saved from being pulled into the black hole by Scott. Back on Earth, Kirk is commended, promoted to captain and given permanent command of the Enterprise from Pike, now a Fleet Admiral. Ambassador Spock visits his younger self and explains that he helped Kirk directly because he wanted to ensure that the young Spock and Kirk would come to an understanding of each other and become friends. The younger Spock, convinced to stay with Starfleet, requests to be posted to the Enterprise as first officer and Kirk accepts. As the Enterprise warps away, the elder Spock recites the series' motto.

I really enjoyed this film. I thought it was great that Leonard Nimoy came back to reprise his role as Spock. The graphics were really good in this film. I give Star Trek 5 tiger paws.

I have been really busy that last few weeks and haven’t had time to go watch a film. But today I went and watched Knowing with Nicolas Cage as John Koestler, Chandler Canterbury as Caleb Koestler, Rose Byrne as Diana Wayland.

In 1958, as part of the dedication ceremony for a new elementary school, a group of students is asked to draw pictures to be stored in a time capsule. But one mysterious girl fills her sheet of paper with rows of apparently random numbers instead. Fifty years later, a new generation of students examines the capsule's contents and the girl's cryptic message ends up in the hands of young Caleb Koestler. But it is Caleb's father, professor John Koestler, who makes the startling discovery that the encoded message predicts with pinpoint accuracy the dates, death tolls and coordinates of every major disaster of the past 50 years. As John further unravels the document's chilling secrets, he realizes the document foretells three additional events -- the last of which hints at destruction on a global scale and seems to somehow involve John and his son. When John's attempts to alert the authorities fall on deaf ears, he takes it upon himself to try to prevent more destruction from taking place. With the reluctant help of Diana Wayland and Abby Wayland, the daughter and granddaughter of the now-deceased author of the prophecies, John's increasingly desperate efforts take him on a heart-pounding race against time until he finds himself facing the ultimate disaster -- and the ultimate sacrifice.

This film got my interest and held on to my interest the whole film. It has an interesting premise. Would you do something to change a disaster if you knew where and when it was going to happen? What if you did try to stop them and you couldn’t? I liked this film. I give it 4 tiger paws.

Finding any mulim anywhere who doesn't foam at the mouth over the existence of Israel is rare if not unknown. Which leads us to the conslusion that this madness will never stop until islam and muslims are stopped.

Note that it's suggested one reason to genocide the Jews is that they are "infidels" The majority of the world are infidels so the implication is that muslims want to genocide every non muslim in the world.

I presume the world isn't suicidal enough to allow such a primitive, backward group to carry out this dream.

I went and watched Watchmen this morning starring Malin Akerman as Silk Spectre II, Billy Crudup as Dr. Manhattan, Matthew Goode as Ozymandias, Jackie Earle Hayley as Rorschach, Jeffery Dean Morgan as The Comedian and Patrick Wilson as Nite Owl II.

In an alternate 1985 America, costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" - which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity...but who is watching the watchmen?

This film is very long. It also has nude scenes so isn’t a film for children. But if you are into Adult Comics movies you will like this movie. I didn’t hate this film but it wasn’t the best one I have seen. I give this film 3 tiger paws.

On September 13, 2008, Sgt. Kelly Keck, a combat medic serving in Afghanistan, was wounded while trying to aid his fellow soldiers who's truck had just been struck by an IED. "I stepped off the road to try to get to the side of the truck, and the next thing I know I hear a loud boom, and I'm laying on the ground," he said. Sgt. Kelly had stepped on a land mine. He was flown to a field hospital in Jalalabad where he ended up loosing three fingers on his left hand and his right leg below the knee. "It was quite an ordeal," the soft-spoken soldier said.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

BUFFALO, N.Y. - A suburban Buffalo man who founded a cable TV station to promote better understanding of Muslims in the U.S. has been arrested on charges he beheaded his wife.
Orchard Park police arrested Muzzammil Hassan, 44, on Thursday for investigation of second-degree murder, The Buffalo News reported.

Police identified the victim as Aasiya Z. Hassan, 37. Her body was found at his business, Bridges TV.

Hassan is the founder and chief executive officer of Bridges TV, which he launched in 2004 amid hopes that it would help portray Muslims in a more positive light. Its slogan was "connecting people through understanding."

According to authorities, Aasiya Hassan recently filed for divorce and had a protection order against her husband, the Buffalo News reported.

"Obviously, this is the worst form of domestic violence possible," Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III said Friday. (Read story here.)

Mad Tiger Movie Review

I didn’t go watch a film this week. I went and got my nails done instead. Pretty pink for Valentine’s Day. But since I haven’t written reviews for the last 2 weeks, I will now give the reviews for the 2 previous weeks.

First there is Doubt starring Meryl Streep Sister Aloysius Beavier, Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Father Brendan Flynn, Amy Adams as Sister James and Viola Davis as Mrs. Miller.

It's 1964, St. Nicholas in the Bronx. A charismatic priest, Father Flynn, is trying to upend the schools' strict customs, which have long been fiercely guarded by Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the iron-gloved Principal who believes in the power of fear and discipline. The winds of political change are sweeping through the community, and indeed, the school has just accepted its first black student, Donald Miller. But when Sister James, a hopeful innocent, shares with Sister Aloysius her guilt-inducing suspicion that Father Flynn is paying too much personal attention to Donald, Sister Aloysius sets off on a personal crusade to unearth the truth and to expunge Flynn from the school. Now, without a shard of proof besides her moral certainty, Sister Aloysius locks into a battle of wills with Father Flynn which threatens to tear apart the community with irrevocable consequence.

This film is very well acted. Streep is up for an Oscar and does a very good job. This film addresses some of the sad history of the Catholic Church and if you are Catholic it might make you uncomfortable. But I think it is a very good film. I give it 4 Tiger Paws.

Next is the film He’s Just Not That Into You starring Ginnefer Goodwin as Gigi, Kevin Connelly as Conner, Scarlett Johanasson as Anna, Bradley Cooper as Ben, Justin Long as Alex, Ben Affleck as Neil, Jennifer Aniston as Beth, Jennifer Connelly as Janine and Drew Barrymore as Mary.

Since the age of 5, Gigi has been told that when men act like jerks, it means they like her.

Years later, Gigi is now struggling to find true love while shifting through men who are simply not interested. After her latest date, Conor has failed to call her, Gigi visits a bar he said he frequented in order to see him. There, she is approached by Alex, a friend of Conor's who works at the bar. Gigi claims she is waiting for Connor, since she needs to return a dentist's pen to him. However, Alex quickly sees through her lie, claiming Connor's dentist is his father. Gigi admits that Connor is not expecting her, and explains her confusion over his lack of response. Alex tells her that Connor isn't interested, and then takes it upon himself to explain the "signs" to Gigi.

Meanwhile, Connor, having just left his date with Gigi, calls his girlfriend Anna. Anna is shopping in the supermarket and runs into Ben. He tells her to go before her in line, citing an indecision about gum as the reason. Anna tells Connor she has to go, and, as she is checking out, is awarded a cooler as a 1000th visitor gift. The two exchange numbers outside when Ben says he knows someone who can help Anna with her singing career. After a few moments of hesitation, Ben admits that he is married. The two part, and Ben walks over to a car and gets in. Neil then asks Ben what that was about.

When Neil returns home, he is greeted by his girlfriend of seven years, Beth. She announces that her younger sister is getting married. Neil, who is in the kitchen making tea, tells Beth that he doesn't believe in marriage. Beth, who desperately wants to get married to Neil, doesn't understand why he dislikes the idea so much.Ben meets his wife Janine back at their new townhouse, currently being renovated.

Gigi, excited about the tips Alex gave her, eagerly shares them with her coworkers, Janine and Beth. Gigi explains that if he's interested, he'll make the first move, and if he's not, he won't. When she claims that there are exceptions, but that the majority are not, she unintentionally implies that Neil will never marry Beth, since they have been together for 7 years and they haven't married yet.

Beth confronts Neil when she goes home, saying she can't deal with it anymore. When Neil continues to refuse to get married, the two break up.

This film is definitely a Chick Flick. And being a chick, I liked it. I think it had some valid points about the differences in how men and women think. I give this movie 4 Tiger Paws.

Wednesday's Hero

This Weeks Post Was Suggested And Written By Brat

Sgt. Patrick Tainsh
33 years old from Oceanside, California
Troop E, 2nd Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment
February 11, 2004

Five years ago today, Sgt. Patrick Tainsh sacrificed all as the mounted unit he
was part of was hit by an IED in Baghdad. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze and Sliver Stars saving the lives of his commanding officer and other soldiers before succumbing to his own wounds. Also killed in the attack was Pfc. William C. Ramirez from Portland, Oregon.

On Veteran’s Day, 2007, Deborah Tainsh, Sgt. Tainsh's mother, attended a school in Columbia, Georgia, and shared a story she had written called "A Boy Named Patrick."

Here is part of the story :

…a little boy named Patrick who loved football, beaches, surfing, and
skateboarding, and especially reading. Patrick watched his dad be a Marine for
over twenty years. During this time Patrick kept reading not only surfing and
skateboarding magazines, but history books, too. One day when Patrick was a man, he told his dad and best friend, “I want to do something that will make a
difference in the world, I’m going to be a soldier.” And so he did. And in 1999
he went to Fort Knox, Kentucky for boot camp and then went to Fort Polk,
Louisiana where he worked and trained hard to become a United States Army
Cavalry Scout. Then in 2003 Patrick had to say good bye to his mom and dad
because he had to go fight a war in Iraq to protect his country, friends, and
family from terrorists and to help fight for the freedoms of the boys and girls
in that country where they and their families were treated very badly by their
country’s leader. Patrick once wrote a letter to his mom and dad telling them
that he cried for the children because they were hungry and he didn’t have food
to give them. He said he couldn’t understand how a country’s leader could treat
the people so badly and make them live in such dirty conditions with trash and
wild dogs everywhere. And so Patrick's mom and dad keep a photo in their living
room of Patrick surrounded by Iraqi children.

Sgt Tainsh came to the military later than some, but rose through the ranks fast. In his last letter to his parents, Sgt Tainsh shared his thoughts about his mission. And in 2006, Sgt. Tainsh's mother wrote a book called Heart Of A Hawk about her son's life and her and her husband's struggles since their son was killed.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

Gunnery Sgt. Nick Popaditch

In 2003, Sgt. Popaditch, along with 1st Tank Battalion, rolled into Baghdad from Kuwait at the start of the Iraq War. They had just taken the city and the tank that Sgt. Popaditch was in had rolled up to a 40-ft statue of Saddam. I think we all remember that statue. Popaditch was given a cigar by a fellow Marine and as he smoked it an AP photographer snapped a picture of him.

Fast forward to April 7, 2004. Sgt. Popaditch's wife was vacationing with their son when she received a phone call informing her that her husband had been injured in an attack. The turret of his tank, that he was situated in, had taken two direct hits from RPG's. He fell through the hatch to the floor of the tank. As he struggled to his feet, he began to shout orders to his men but go no response. He then realized that the attack had caused him to go deaf in both ears. But that was only temporary. He then reached up and felt that his head was wet and knew it wasn't good.

In the aftermath of the attack, Gunnery Sgt. Nick Popaditch had lost his right eye. And because of that he now proudly wears a prosthetic eye with the Marine Corps. logo embossed on it. On November 10, 2005 Gunnery Sgt. Nick Popaditch was awarded the Silver Star, the nation's third-highest award for heroism in combat. He also has a book out titled Once A Marine.

Palestinians confirm Hamas war crimes, refute Gaza death toll

An Italian reporter who entered the Gaza Strip following the recent Israeli assault on Hamas there wrote in his newspaper on Thursday that the casualty figures announced by Hamas and so eagerly passed on by the UN, Red Cross and foreign media were grossly exaggerated.

At most, five or six hundred Palestinians died in Gaza over the past month, according to Lorenzo Cremonesi, a correspondent for Italy's Corriere della Sera. The foreign media has carried numerous sources citing Hamas and UN officials claiming in excess of 1,300 killed.

But Cremonesi explained, "It is sufficient to visit several hospitals [in the Gaza Strip] to understand that the numbers don't add up." He noted that in nearly all of Gaza's major hospitals, and especially those in major conflict zones, he found most beds empty.

On top of that, Cremonesi reported that a doctor at Gaza City's Shifa Hospital who asked to remain anonymous for fear of Hamas acknowledged that the death toll had been inflated. He also told the reporter that many of the dead were "youths between the ages of 17 to 23 who were recruited to the ranks of Hamas and then sent them to the slaughter."

Cremonesi also wrote that Gazans he interviewed confirmed Israeli accusations of Hamas war crimes, especially the deliberate use of the civilian population as human shields.
When local Gazans demanded that Hamas and its allies not take up positions near them, one interviewee said the terrorists responded:

"Traitors, collaborators with Israel, spies of Fatah, cowards! The soldiers of the holy war will punish you. And in any case you will all die, like us. Fighting the Zionist Jews we are all destined for paradise. Do you not wish to die with us?"

Others recounted how Hamas gunmen had disguised themselves as paramedics and commandeered ambulances to avoid being targeted by the Israelis, and how UN facilities were in fact used as launch pads for rockets and mortar shells.

After last weeks depressing film, I decided to opt for something different this week. I went and watched Underworld: Rise of the Lycans this morning starring Michael Sheen as Lucian, Bill Nightly as Viktor and Rhona Mitra as Sonja.

The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor, the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja, Viktor‘s daughter, in his battle against the Vampire army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.

If you are an Underworld fan you will love this film. Personally I think this film wasn’t needed to enhance the Underworld story. This film is full of blood and gore, so if that is your thing you will like this film. Having said all of that I didn’t hate this movie. I give this film 3 and half tiger paws.

I went and watched Revolutionary Road today starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Frank Wheeler, Kate Winslet as April Wheeler and Kathy Bates as Helen Givings.

April and Frank Wheeler are a young, thriving couple living with their two children in a Connecticut suburb in the mid-1950s. Their self-assured exterior masks a creeping frustration at their inability to feel fulfilled in their relationships or careers. Frank is mired in a well-paying but boring office job, and April is a housewife still mourning the demise of her hoped-for acting career. Determined to identify themselves as superior to the mediocre sprawl of suburbanites who surround them, they decide to move to France where they will be better able to develop their true artistic sensibilities, free of the consumerist demands of capitalist America. As their relationship deteriorates into an endless cycle of squabbling, jealousy and recriminations, their trip and their dreams of self-fulfillment are thrown into jeopardy.

This film is an adaptation of the book by the same name written by Richard Yates. I think both DiCaprio and Winslet will win a lot of awards for this film. My first thought as the credits at the end came up was “that was disturbing.” It’s not that I didn’t like this film, it’s just that the story was disturbing and during these stressful times, if you are looking for a feel good movie, this film is out. I think that I am still digesting this film and my feelings about it will change as I have had time to think about it. This film is rated R so not for children. I give this film 4 tiger paws.

I went to watch The Reader this morning starring Kate Winslet as Hanna Schmitz, Ralph Fiennes as the adult Michael Berg and David Kross as the young Michael Berg.

The Reader opens in post-WWII Germany when teenager Michael Berg becomes ill and is helped home by Hanna, a stranger twice his age. Michael recovers from scarlet fever and seeks out Hanna to thank her. The two are quickly drawn into a passionate but secret affair.

Michael discovers that Hanna likes to be read to and their physical relationship deepens. Hanna is enthralled as Michael reads to her from “The Odyssey,” “Huck Finn” and “The Lady with The Little Dog.” Despite their intense bond, Hanna mysteriously disappears one day and Michael is left heartbroken and confused.

Eight years later, while Michael is a law student observing the Nazi war crime trials, he is stunned to find Hanna back in his life - this time as a defendant in the courtroom. As Hanna’s past is revealed, Michael uncovers a deep secret that will impact both their lives/ The Reader is a haunting story about truth and reconciliation, about how one generation comes to terms with the crimes of another.

This film is based on the book of the same name written by Bernhard Schlink and nominated for 4 Golden Globes. As expected it is a great performance by Kate Winslet. There is a lot of nudity in this film so it is certainly not a film for children. I did like this film. I give it 3 and half tiger paws.

I went and watched Marley and Me today starring Owen Wilson as John Grogan and Jennifer Aniston as Jenny Grogan.

An ambitious young reporter, John Grogan, and his wife, Jenny, also a reporter, move to a Florida, buy a house and adopt a Labrador puppy they name Marley. Marley quickly becomes a rollicking force of nature in their lives. And this family learns important life lessons from their adorable, but naughty and neurotic dog.

If you have ever owned and loved a dog this movie is for you. This movie was adapted from John Grogan’s book of the same title. While this film has some true to life funny doggie moments in it I have to say that I was surprised at how much I liked this film. As many of you have had to listen to my dog stories, you know that I am an avid dog lover. I have to admit this movie made me cry. At the end of the movie Owen Wilson adapts a Louis Sabin quote. He says…

“A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, big or small, young or old. He doesn't care if you're not smart, not popular, not a good joke-teller, not the best athlete, nor the best-looking person. To your dog, you are the greatest, the smartest, the nicest human being who was ever born. Give him your heart and he’ll give you his.”

That quote is so true. I gave this movie 4 and half tiger paws.

I went and watched The Curious Case of Benjamin Button today starring Brad Pitt as Benjamin Button and Cate Blanchett as Daisy.

"I was born under unusual circumstances." And so begins 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,' adapted from the 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards: a man, like any of us, who is unable to stop time. We follow his story, set in New Orleans from the end of World War I in 1918 to the 21st century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man's life can be. Benjamin Button is a grand tale of a not-so-ordinary man and the people and places he discovers along the way, the loves he finds, the joys of life and the sadness of death, and what lasts beyond time.

This film lasts almost 3 hours, but was so interesting it kept my attention all that time. There are some funny moments in this film. This film is a love story that is bittersweet. It is not a film for children though. I give this movie 4 and half tiger paws.

A funny, nice guy who loved to fly. That's how Christian P. Humphreys is remembered by his friends. "He was a great guy, always happy and had a joke," said Sean Whitney, a flight medic. "We used to play with our paintball guns in the cornfields behind his house."

Humphreys flew with the Fallon Naval Air Station Search and Rescue Longhorns from June 6, 2004, to May 5, 2006. He left the Navy and joined the Army as part of the "Blue to Green" program to become a helicopter pilot.

Humphreys, along with Chief Warrant Officer 3 Donald V. Clark, 37 years old from Tennessee, was killed when their OH-58 Kiowa helicopter crashed while on a mission over Mosul, Iraq. As a rescue crew chief, Humphreys was in charge of the operation behind the pilots. He made the decisions when to deploy rescue crews out of the helicopter to assist injured people, and he also took care of the equipment.

"He was a funny guy, a nice guy, a lot of character," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Justin Schmidt. "The guy was always entertaining, always had something to say, but like everyone here, he displayed the professionalism in saving lives."

I went and watched the movie Milk this morning starring Sean Penn as Harvey Milk, Emile Hirch as Cleve Jones, Josh Brolin as Dan White and James Franco as Scott Smith.

In 1977, Harvey Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, becoming the first openly gay man to be voted into public office in America. His victory was not just a victory for gay rights; he forged coalitions across the political spectrum. From senior citizens to union workers, Harvey Milk changed the very nature of what it means to be a fighter for human rights and became, before his untimely death in 1978.

Milk charts the last eight years of Harvey Milk’s life. While living in New York City, he turns 40. Looking for more purpose, Milk and his lover Scott Smith relocate to San Francisco, where they found a small business, Castro Camera, in the heart of a working-class neighborhood. With his beloved Castro neighborhood and beautiful city empowering him, Milk surprises Scott and himself by becoming an outspoken agent for change. With vitalizing support from Scott and from new friends like young activist Cleve Jones, Milk plunges headfirst into the choppy waters of politics. Bolstering his public profile with humor, Milk’s actions speak even louder than his gift-of-gab words. I went and watched the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still today starring Keanu Reeves as the Spaceman Klaatu, Jennifer Connelly as Dr. Helen Benson, Jaden Smith (Will Smith and Jada Pickett Smith’s son) as Jacob Benson (Dr. Benson’s step-son) and Kathy Bates as Regina Jackson the President’s representative.

The story of an alien traveler, Klaatu, who comes to Earth along with his bodyguard robot, Gort to deliver a warning of planetary destruction if the people of the world don’t change their ways.

Keanu Reeves does an excellent job playing the stoic Spaceman Klaatu and Jaden Smith is adorable in this film. But…

About the only thing that is the same in this remake are the shape of the robot Gort and a few minor things like Klaatu getting shot. Other than that, I didn’t see much similarity between the remake and the original. And I watched the Original again last night on the AMC Channel to prepare for watching this film today. There is no spaceship but a lot of these wicked looking orbs all over the earth. The message was an environment message (move over Al Gore) not a world peace message. Gort turns into a million of these insect looking nano machines that starts eating everything its path until almost too late Klaatu stops them and they all die.

Now I admit that the original film is one of my favorite Sci Fi movies of all time, but as I had feared the remake is a travesty of the original. Maybe if they had stuck to the original story I would have liked this film more. I give this film 2 tiger paws.

Louisiana National Guard spokesman Maj. Michael Kazmierzak said Spc. Jonnie L. Stiles had been serving as a gunner on a Humvee doing route clearance when and IED detonated near his vehicle in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. He said the job typically involves checking roads for bombs and insurgents.

Stiles' wife, Launa, said that he was nearly killed last month when a suicide bomber blew up a military vehicle in front of his. She said he was still able to rescue three other soldiers and returned to duty before his 30-day recovery period was finished.

"He was strong and really cared for his men," she said.

Stiles was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and graduated from Littleton High School in Colorado. He served in the military for 17 years, first joining the Marines and then switching to the Army in 1999. He served three years at Fort Carson, left the Army and then returned as a member of the Colorado Air National Guard in the Summer of 2007.

I went and watched The Boy In The Striped Pajamas this morning starring Asa Butterfield as Brunno, David Thewlis as Father and Jack Scanion as Shumel.

Set during World War II, a story seen through the innocent eyes of Bruno, the eight-year-old son of the commandant at a concentration camp, whose forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence has startling and unexpected consequences.

This movie has quite a shocking ending and I won’t spoil it by telling you what it is. I can’t say that I like the subject matter or the way this film ended but I did like this movie. I give this film 4 tiger paws.

I went and watched Australia today starring Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman and Brandon Walters.

A romantic action-adventure set in northern Australia prior to World War II, AUSTRALIA centers on an English aristocrat (Kidman) who inherits a ranch the size of Maryland. When English cattle barons plot to take her land, she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle driver (Jackman) to drive 2000 head of cattle across hundreds of miles of the country's most unforgiving land, only to still face the bombing of Darwin, Australia by the Japanese forces that had attacked Pearl Harbor only months earlier.

This movie also addresses the treatment of Aboriginal children that were taken away from their families and forced to work as domestic servants and to live on the white peoples' government-controlled missions and reserves.

This movie was long, 166 minutes. But it kept my attention the whole time. I liked this movie. I give it 4 and half tiger paws.

Mad Tiger Movie Review

I have been too lazy to write movie reviews last few weeks. I usually go before noon on Fridays, because I can get in for $5 and that usually works out pretty well for me. Usually, like last week, when I went to see SAW 5 (only because I got the times mixed up on the movie I really went to go see and I was standing at the ticket window trying to make a snap decision with the hot breathe of the person behind me on my neck and SAW 5 was about the only other thing showing at that time.) I was the only one in that theater. I must say it was rather spooky watching SAW 5 in a dark theater all by myself. So imagine my surprise when I walked into the theater today to find it packed with teens. They must have all skipped school to go watch this film.

I went and watched Twilight today starring Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan and Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen.

Bella Swan has always been a bit different, never caring about or fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix, Arizona high school. When her mother Renee. remarries and decides to move with her new husband to Florida, and Bella decides to go live with her father, Charlie, in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn't expect anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen, a boy unlike any she's ever met. Intelligent and witty, his piercing eyes see straight into her soul. Soon, Bella and Edward are swept up in a passionate and decidedly unorthodox romance. Edward can run faster than any cheetah, he can stop a moving car with his bare hands, and he hasn't aged since 1918. Most importantly, he's a vampire. Like all vampires, he's immortal. He doesn't drink human blood (they're vampire "vegetarians"), which is rare among the vampire population. Instead, they go on regular "hiking" trips, where they feed on prey such as grizzly bears and mountain lions. For Edward, Bella is the thing he has waited ninety years for - a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. And what will they do when James Laurent and Victoria come into town and James sets his sights on Bella? Will true love prevail when Edward is forced to save her life and conquer his thirst? The true question is when you can live forever, what do you live for?

I can see why teen girls would think that Robert Pattinson is a heart throb. He is a cutie and plays the role of a vampire perfectly. I just got this book yesterday so I don’t know if the movie lives up to the book or not yet. But I will say it was a pretty good movie and of course all the teens in the theater with me seemed to love it. I don’t know if the subject matter would be fit for younger children though. I give this movie 4 tiger paws.

Call it breaking the brass ceiling. Ann E. Dunwoody, after 33 years in the Army, ascended Friday to a peak never before reached by a woman in the U.S. military: four-star general.

At an emotional promotion ceremony, Dunwoody looked back on her years in uniform, said it was a credit to the Army—and a great surprise to her—that she would make history in a male-dominated military.

"Thirty-three years after I took the oath as a second lieutenant, I have to tell you this is not exactly how I envisioned my life unfolding," she told a standing-room-only auditorium. "Even as a young kid, all I ever wanted to do was teach physical education and raise a family.

"It was clear to me that my Army experience was just going to be a two-year detour en route to my fitness profession," she added. "So when asked, `Ann, did you ever think you were going to be a general officer, to say nothing about a four-star?' I say, `Not in my wildest dreams.'

"There is no one more surprised than I—except, of course, my husband. You know what they say, `Behind every successful woman there is an astonished man.'"

Strange Novemeber Hail Storm

The hail covered the ground like snow.

It was even in drifts like snow.

Looks like snow!

Thoughts On The Election

Just some thoughts on Obama getting elected President.

First of all, Black people keep repeating that this was a victory for Dr. Martin Luther King. But Dr. King said he had a dream that one day a man would be judged by the content of his character and not by the color of his skin. Yet Obama was elected because of the color of his skin. Many voted for him because he is black and for no other reason.
Yes, it has made history. But Dr. King is probably turning in his grave. This was not his “Dream” at all.

The problems I had with Obama had nothing to do with his skin color. It had to do with his Socialist rhetoric. I would be against Socialism if the Candidate was purple.

I have to admit I was sad for a bit yesterday until I remembered some of the things Obama has said. He said he wanted to invade Pakistan. He said he wants to put more troops in Afghanistan and take out the Taliban. He said he wants to catch Bin Ladin. And all of that means there will be more dead Muslims. And since that is Obama’s view of Muslims it is pretty retarded for Muslims to back this man.

But when it comes down to it, I don’t think things will change much in America. Obama even tried to cover his butt when he said that change wouldn’t happen in a year or even his first term. Obama was trying to cover the fact that he promised things he had no intention of doing. It will probably be business as usual for the next 4 years.

So while the election was historic, I don’t think things will change much over the next 4 years. So there is no reason to be sad McCain supporters. McCain is a War Hero and a great American and no one can take that away from him. In 4 years McCain will still be a War Hero and a Great American. Only history can judge whether Obama was a good President or not.

And that is how I see it.

Wednesday's Hero

Wednesday Hero was started to put a spotlight on the men and women of the United States military and the bravery their show day in and day out. But on a few occasions a service members of an allied nation has been profiled. Such is the case this week.

Despite being shot twice during an ambush in Afghanistan, an SAS (Special Air Service) soldier from Australia lashed himself to the front of his patrol vehicle so he wouldn't be left behind if he passed out from loss of blood and kept on fighting.

The Digger is expected to be recommended for a high level bravery award.

Suffering from serious upper body wounds, the soldier struggled on to the front of his SAS long range patrol vehicle (LRPV) and, under heavy fire, used a rope to attach himself firmly between the vehicle's bull bar and radiator.

Once he was secured, and there was no chance that he would fall off if he fainted, he picked up his rifle and resumed firing at the enemy during a two-hour fighting withdrawal.

SAS troops and their special forces comrades from the Commando Regiment are well aware of the slow and painful death that awaits them if they are captured by the Taliban.

The Digger, who cannot be identified, faded in and out of consciousness, emptying several magazines as volleys of enemy rounds and rocket propelled grenades, rained down around him.

He was finally evacuated from the battle field at high speed still lashed to the front of the LRPV.

A source told The Courier-Mail the Digger was now "up and about" and would recover fully from his serious gunshot wounds. His heroic deeds will be recognised when he is recommended for a high level bravery award.

Several others engaged in the do-or-die battle on September 2 are also in line for top honours.

With Colin Powell now repeating the lie that Barack Obama has "always been a Christian," despite new information further confirming Obama's Muslim childhood (such as the Indonesian school registration listing him as Muslim), one watches with dismay as the Democratic candidate manages to hide the truth on this issue.

Instead, then, let us review a related subject – Obama's connections and even indebtedness, throughout his career, to extremist Islam. Specifically, he has longstanding, if indirect ties to two institutions, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), listed by the U.S. government in 2007 as an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas-funding trial; and the Nation of Islam (NoI), condemned by the Anti-Defamation League for its "consistent record of racism and anti-Semitism."

The Khalid al-Mansour connection: According to former Manhattan Borough president Percy Sutton, Al-Mansour "was raising money for" Obama's expenses at Harvard Law School. Al-Mansour, a black American (né Don Warden), became advisor to Saudi prince Al-Walid bin Talal, CAIR's largest individual donor. Al-Mansour holds standard Islamist views: he absolves the Islamist government in Sudan of sponsoring slavery, he denies a Jewish tie to Jerusalem, and he wrote a booklet titled "Americans Beware! The Zionist Plot Against S. Arabia." (Both Obama and al-Mansour deny Sutton's account.)

The Kenny Gamble (also known as Luqman Abdul-Haqq) connection: Gamble, a once-prominent pop music producer, cut the ribbon to the Obama campaign headquarters housed in a south Philadelphia building he owns. Gamble is an Islamist who buys large swaths of real estate in Philadelphia to create a Muslim-only residential area. Also, as the self-styled "amir" of the United Muslim Movement, he has many links to Islamist organizations, including CAIR and the Muslim Alliance in North America. (MANA's "amir" is Siraj Wahhaj, an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.)

Kenny Gamble The Mazen Asbahi connection: The Obama campaign's first Muslim outreach coordinator resigned after it came to light that he had served on the board of a subsidiary of the Saudi-sponsored North American Islamic Trust, with Jamal Said, another unindicted co-conspirator in the 2007 Hamas funding trial. Asbahi has ties to CAIR's Chicago and Detroit offices, to the Islamic Society of North America, yet another unindicted co-conspirator in the Hamas funding trial, and to other Islamist organizations.

The Minha Husaini connection: The campaign's second Muslim outreach coordinator has an Islamist background, having served as an intern in the Muslim Public Service Network. Immediately upon her appointment by Obama, she met with a group of about thirty Muslims including such notorious figures as CAIR's Nihad Awad; the Muslim American Society's Mahdi Bray, who has publicly supported the Hamas and Hezbollah terrorist groups; and Johari Abdul Malik of the Dar Al-Hijrah Mosque in Falls Church, Va., who has advised American Muslims: "You can blow up bridges, but you cannot kill people who are innocent on their way to work."

Second, Obama's ties to the Nation of Islam:

Louis Farrakhan, who calls Obama "the Messiah." Obama's long-time donor and ally Antoin "Tony" Rezko partnered for nearly three decades with Jabir Herbert Muhammad, a son of NoI leader Elijah Muhammad, and says he gave Jabir and his family "millions of dollars over the years." Rezko also served as executive director of the Muhammad Ali Foundation, a rogue organization that, without Ali's permission, exploited the name of this CAIR awardee.

Jeremiah Wright, Obama's esteemed pastor for twenty years, came out of a Nation background, recently he accepted protection from an NoI security detail, and has praised Louis Farrakhan, the NoI's leader, as one of the "giants of the African American religious experience." Wright's church celebrated Farrakhan for his having "truly epitomized greatness."

Farrakhan himself endorsed Obama, calling him "the hope of the entire world," "one who can lift America from her fall," and even "the Messiah."

That Obama's biography touches so frequently on such unsavory organizations as CAIR and the Nation of Islam should give pause. How many of politicians have a single tie to either group, much less seven of them? John McCain charitably calls Obama "a person you do not have to be scared [of] as president of the United States," but Obama's multiple links to anti-Americans and subversives mean he would fail the standard security clearance process for Federal employees.
Islamic aggression represents America's strategic enemy; Obama's many insalubrious connections raise grave doubts about his fitness to serve as America's commander-in-chief.

I went and watched Gina Prince-Bythewood’s adaptation of Sue Monk Kidd’s novel The Secret Life of Bees today starring Dakota Fanning as Lily Owens, Queen Latifah as August Boatwright, Jennifer Hudson as Rosaleen Daise, Alicia Keys as June Boatwright and Sophie Okonedo as May Boatwright.

Lily is a 14 year old growing up in a small southern town in 1964. She is haunted by memories of accidently shooting her mother when she was 4 years old. Lily lives with her emotionally distant abusive father, and her best friend is their Black housekeeper, Rosaleen. After locals beat Rosaleen for attempting to register to vote and Lily’s father goes one step too far during an argument, Lilly and Rosaleen set out to find the place where the only picture Lilly has of her mother was taken. That place turns out to be the home of the independent Black Boatwright sisters who make a very successful living producing honey. Lily and Rosaleen move in with them and soon Lily learns about both beekeeping and life.

This was a vey good movie. It is probably more of a chick flick though so guys might not like it as much. It made me cry. I give this movie 4 tiger paws.

I went and watched W. today starring Josh Brolin as George W. Bush, Elizabeth Banks as Laura Bush and James Cromwell as George H. Walker Bush and directed by Oliver Stone.

This film is supposed to be a chronicle of George W. Bush's life. While I have not been a fan of the George W. Bush Presidency; I did vote for him twice only because I thought he was an infinitely better than the other choices we had. I also think that Gore and Kerry would have been much worse Presidents. I also freely admit that President Bush has made many mistakes while in office. But I have never seen such a character assignation in my life as this film is.

I figured this film would be unflattering since it was an Oliver Stone film. The film critics tried to portray this movie as being sympathetic to President Bush. So I figured I would give this film a shot. There absolutely nothing sympathetic in this film. They even portrayed Bush as unflattering down to every detail. Stone had Brolin eating like a pig talking with his mouth full and spitting food everywhere. Stone constantly portrayed Bush as drunk and with a drink in his hand.

I have to say at this moment I am so totally disgusted with Liberals that I want to puke. I am tired of their hypocrisy. You scrutinize and criticize every thing a Conservative or Republican does when you could never stand up to such scrutiny yourself. How often do you drink, Mr. Stone? As far as that goes how many of you Liberals partied in college? That’s right its ok with you Liberals that Obama and Clinton both used drugs during college isn’t it? But Bush partying at college is something that you all blow out of purportion.

I am tired of you Liberals trying to tear down everything that makes America great. I am tired of your Elitist attitudes towards the average American. And Christians if you are even thinking about voting for a Liberal this election, I suggest you watch this film and see how liberals really view Christians. Wake up! They view you the same as Rosie O’Donnell does that you are just the same as the 9/11 terrorists. I am tired of Liberals trying to divide this Country and turn it into a Socialist State.

How low will the Democrats and their partners in crime the Main Stream Media (MSM) go to gain control of the White House again? Well evidently there is no limit to how low they will go.

They will sell out to Socialist Domestic Terrorists like Bill Ayers and his pupil Obama. They will manipulate the Stock Market with no regard of all the Americans they are ruining financially. Why should those Elitist care if the working American, the Backbone of America, lose everything? They still have their money and they want America to buy into their lies and manipulation and vote for the Socialist Obama who wants to “spread the wealth around.”

The MSM will cover up the fact that Obama contributed over $800,000 to Acorn who is being investigated for Voter Registration fraud. The Democrats are willing to use Fraud to elect this Socialist. Why should they care if the American people are really represented when they will stoop this low to gain the White House?

Liberal Democrats have used Class Warfare very successfully in the past and are using it again to try to win this election; yet vilify Joe the Plumber for asking Obama a question concerned that he will lose his small business and because Obama exposed himself as a socialist in his answer. Wake up, America! The way the Democrats has demonized this working class American is how these Elitist Socialists really view you, the working class. The Democrats will say they are for you on the campaign trail, but in reality see you as pond scum and will tax you until you lose everything you have and they can maintain their Elitism.

Then there is Sarah Palin. The Democrats claim they are for Women’s Rights yet have launched an all out offensive on Palin and constantly telling everyone that “she isn’t qualified to lead” in a desperate attempt to cover up the fact that Obama really isn’t ready to lead. They even trumped up charges in her home state accusing her of firing a State Trooper who is her ex-brother-in-law claiming that the firing was done for personal reasons. Yet they conveniently leave out that this State Trooper had tazered a child. Another shining example of how Democrats really view women and will twist facts to further their quest to gain power.

Then we come to Joe Biden’s remarks of the weekend that if Obama is elected “he will be tested by an International Crisis in the first 6 months” and that the way he deals with it will “not be apparent that he is right.” What? If the world wants to Test the new President of the United States, wouldn’t that mean that the world thinks he is not ready to lead also? And if Obama’s reaction to a World Crisis will not appear to be right, wouldn’t that be because it isn’t the right decision? It is evident that the Democrats knew Biden had made a blunder because they have now taken him off the campaign trail so he won’t say anything else to point to the fact that Obama is not qualified to be president. Obviously the MSM knew Biden had made a blunder too, because they have done their best to cover this one up too.

The MSM wants Obama to win so much that they have already declared him the winner and are picking out drapes for the White House. The MSM was shocked at how the crowds at McCain rallies recently were yelling out their anger and frustration at the Media. Well, MSM, that is because of all the Liberal biased reporting you do. MSM, you are the ones that are out of touch with Main Stream America. The American people are tired of your bias and they are angry. How about YOU start reporting “Fair and Balanced” for a change. And stop trying to skew the election, its not working for you.

And don’t even get me started on whether Obama is a closet Muslim or not or the fact that he said, “My Muslim religion.” This man is not the Messiah; he is a liar and an fraud.

Sgt. Carlton Clark graduated from South Royalton High School in 2002. While in high school, he was co-captain of his soccer team and a member of the track and field and basketball teams. He graduated from basic combat training and advanced individual training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. in 2002 and was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. as a combat engineer. He was air assault qualified and deployed during the initial wave of Operation Iraqi Freedom for one year. He was subsequently assigned to West Point to train cadets. He re-enlisted and was deployed for a second tour of duty in Iraq. He earned a Purple Heart, an Army Commendation Medal with Valor, a Bronze Star Medal and was posthumously awarded a second Purple Heart.

Sgt. Clark was killed in action when an IED detonated near his Humvee while conducting combat operations in Baghdad. Also killed in the attack were Staff Sgt. Stephen A. Seale and Cpl. Jose Zamora.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

Last weekend I went and watched Billy: The Early Years directed by Robbie Benson (a blast from the past) starring Arnie Hammer as Billy Graham, Stefanie Butler as Ruth Bell Graham and Martin Landau as Billy’s life long friend Charles Templeton.

Everyone knows who he is. Now find out how he got there. He remains one of the true icons of late 20th and early 21st century evangelism. But what of his early years - the years that led him into full-time ministry? As scripted and directed by acclaimed actor Robby Benson, this fact-based historical drama depicts Graham as an earnest young man whose life is irrevocably changed via his interaction with another up-and-coming follower of God, Charles Templeton. Though fast friends, the men reach a crossroads and fork off in opposing directions when Templeton's faith buckles beneath the weight of the scientific revolution and the evidence that he perceives as an unshakable threat to Christianity. The disbelief that Templeton demonstrates, in turn, convinces Graham to take the altar call in the Depression-Era South, in an effort to bring people to God who find themselves mired in agnosticism and atheism.

Billy Graham is about the only Tel-Evangelist that still stands as a man of integrity and who lives as he preaches. This film has too much preaching in it for my taste, but it’s a movie about a preacher so is to be expected. It is a good movie whether you are a Billy Graham fan or not. I give this movie 4 tiger paws.

I went and watched Max Payne today starring Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne, Mila Kunis (from That 70’s Show) as Mona Sax and Beau Bridges as B.B. Hensley.

Coming together to solve a series of murders in New York City are a cop, Max Payne, whose family was slain as part of a conspiracy and an assassin, Mona Sax, out to avenge her sister's death. The duo will be hunted by the police, the mob, and a ruthless corporation.

Even though this film is advertised as a super natural film, if that is what you are expecting, you will be disappointed. This film wasn’t exactly bad, it was just ok. Maybe I am getting tired of going and watching films now. And I just got my Movie Watcher Card too. Anyway, I give this film 3 tiger paws.

The father of Cpl. Lance Thompson said his son would be proud knowing he fought and died to help Iraqis vote in an election.

Cpl. Lance Thompson died in during fighting in Ramadi by a truck bomb. His father, Greg Thompson, said his son sent him a letter in September of '04 which said, "Freedom is not free. It requires sacrifice."

Greg Thompson said the millions turning out to vote in Iraq was "fantastic" and said it was a "momentous day in the Middle East."

"Are you asking me was it worth Lance losing his life?" he asked a reporter. "Being the gung-ho Marine that he was, he would say yes. So I'll say yes. That is a tough, bitter pill to swallow. It hurts. God, I didn't want to give up my son."

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

I went and watched An American Carol today starring Kevin Farley (Chris Farley’s younger brother) as Michael Malone (the Michael Moore character) an anti-American film maker, Kelsey Grammer as the ghost of General Patton, John Voight as the ghost of President George Washington and Trace Adkins as the Angel of Death.

An anti-American filmmaker who's out to abolish the July Fourth holiday is visited by three ghosts who try to change his perception of the country.

This film is billed as a comedy and while it does have a lot of funny parts in it, it also has a lot of truth in it too. This film also tells the truth about how Muslims feel about us. This film will make you proud to be an American again. I liked this film; I give it 4 tiger paws.

SSGT Renee A. Deville was an Army Reservist who deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 401st Civil Affairs Battalion from Webster, N.Y. She arrived at Walter Reed August 10, 2006, after being injured in a mortar attack.

While at Walter Reed, Deville was assigned to Chosen Battery, Warrior Transition Brigade, and was among three graduates of the Army's first Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course Stand Alone Common Core offered to Warriors in Transition.

Deville, who successfully completed every aspect of the course from a wheelchair, was lauded by SGT Major of the Army Kenneth O. Preston as exemplifying the Army's 'Warrior Ethos', at the graduation ceremony for the course on March 28, 2008.

Deville was also the impetus for a new playground being built behind the Mologne House at Walter Reed in 2007.

An October 2007 Washington Post article about the opening of the playground says that SSGT Deville's mention of her children's limited recreational options to Col. Bruce Haselden, the garrison commander, helped set in motion the playground project.

Staff Sgt. Renee Antoinette Deville died September 1, 2008 in her room at the Mologne House at Walter Reed. She was 44.

She is survived by her husband and 4 children, her mother, a brother, and two sisters.

SSGT Deville was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery on September 19, 2008.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

I went and watched Fireproof today starring Kirk Cameron as firefighter Caleb Holt and Erin Bethea as his estranged wife Catherine. This is a faith-based film brought to you by the same people who made the film Facing the Giants.

Lt. Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter's adage: Never leave your partner behind. Inside burning buildings, it's his natural instinct. In the cooling embers of his marriage, it's another story.

After a decade of marriage, Caleb and Catherine Holt have drifted so far apart that they are ready to move on without each other. Yet as they prepare to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb's dad asks his son to try an experiment: The Love Dare.

While hoping The Love Dare has nothing to do with his parents' newfound faith, Caleb commits to the challenge. But can he attempt to love his wife while avoiding God's love for him? Will he be able to demonstrate love over and over again to a person that's no longer receptive to his love? Or is this just another marriage destined to go up in smoke?

Facing the Giants was a movie that made me cry and I have to admit this film made me cry too. If you don’t mind a faith-based film, this one is a must see. I give it 5 tiger paws.

I couldn’t help myself today. I went and watched The Lucky Ones starring Tim Robbins as Cheever, Rachel McAdams as Colee and Michael Pena as TK. I wanted to see how a very vocal anti war protester (Robbins) would portray our Vetrans in a film like this.

The story revolves around three soldiers; Colee, TK and Cheever who return from the Iraq War after suffering injuries and learn that life has moved on without them. They end up on an unexpected road trip across the U.S., with Colee on a mission to bring her boyfriend's guitar back to his family because he saved her life, TK seeking confidence to face his girlfriend after a shrapnel injury that threatens his sexual function and middle-aged Cheever planning to hit the casinos in a desperate effort to pay for his son's college.

At one point in the film a person asks the 3 soldiers what were they fighting for in Iraq and the answer was, “To stay alive.” I think that misses the whole point. But all things considered it wasn’t a bad film. I give I 3 tiger paws.

I went and watched Eagle Eye today starring Shia BaBeouf as Jerry Shaw, Michelle Monaghan as Rachel Holloman, Billy Bob Thornton as Agent Thomas Morgan and Rosario Dawson as Zoe Perez.

Jerry Shaw (LaBeouf) and Rachel Holloman (Monaghan) are two strangers thrown together by a mysterious phone call from a woman they have never met. Threatening their lives and family, she pushes Jerry and Rachel into a series of increasingly dangerous situations, using the technology of everyday life to track and control their every move. As the situation escalates, these two ordinary people become the country's most wanted fugitives, who must work together to discover what is really happening and more importantly, why.

This movie is almost non-stop action. It is scary the way technology is used against the people in this film. I liked this film. I give it 4 tiger paws.

McCain Suspends Campaign to Help With Bailout

John McCain will suspend his presidential campaign Thursday and has asked to postpone his debate Friday with Barack Obama so the two senators can return to Washington to help negotiate a Wall Street bailout, an approach that Obama promptly rejected.

The Liberal Media is trying to spin this decison by McCain and say McCain is posturing with this decision. Well I got news for you Liberal Media; it’s NOT political. Its the fact that McCain wants what is best for this Country above what he wants for himself. What is best for this Country is something that the Democrats and Republican politicians have seemed to forgotten with their politics as usual bullshit.

I am hearing reports of another Great Depression on the morning news. Can our Congress put politics aside and prevent this from happening as John McCain has? I doubt it.

In my opinion, with this decision, John McCain has proved he is ready to be President and will make decisions based on what is best for this Country and not politics as usual.

I went and watched Ghost Town today starring, Ricky Gervais as Dentist Bertram Pincus, Greg Kinnear as the ghost Frank Herlihy and Téa Leoni as Frank’s widow, Gwen.

He sees dead people... and they annoy him. Bertram Pincus, is a man whose people skills leave much to be desired. When Pincus dies unexpectedly, but is miraculously revived after seven minutes, he wakes up to discover that he now has the annoying ability to see ghosts. Even worse, they all want something from him, particularly Frank Herlihy who pesters him into breaking up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen. That puts Pincus squarely in the middle of a triangle with spirited results.

While sometimes predictable, this romantic comedy is still endearing. I liked this one. I give it 4 tiger paws.

It had to happen eventually. I am a woman after all. I watched the Chick Flick, The Women today.

With stars like, Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett Smith, Bette Midler, Candice Bergen, Cloris Leachman and Carrie Fisher in it you know it has to be good.

In New York City's modern whirl of fashion and publishing, Mary Haines seems to have it all--a beautiful country home, a rich financier husband, an adorable 11-year-old daughter and a part-time career creating designs for her father's venerable clothing company. Her best friend, Sylvie Fowler, leads another enviable life--as a happily single editor of a prominent fashion magazine, a possessor of a huge closet of designer clothes and a revered arbiter of taste and style poised on New York's cutting edge. But when Mary's husband enters into an affair with Crystal Allen, a sultry "spritzer girl" lurking behind the Saks Fifth Avenue perfume counter, all hell breaks loose. Mary and Sylvie's relationship is tested to the breaking point while their tight-knit circle of friends, including mega-mommy Edie Cohen and author Alex Fisher, all start to question their own friendships and romantic relationships as well.

L/Cpl. Jason Hanson died when a gasoline truck near a building he was in exploded, causing the building to collapse in Al Anbar province, Iraq. Three other Marines were also killed in the blast. Lance Cpl. Anthony E. Butterfield, 19 yrs. old, of Clovis, California; Cpl. Phillip E. Baucus, 28 yrs. old, of Wolf Creek, Montana; Sgt. Christian B. Williams, 27 yrs. old, of Winter Haven, Florida.

Hanson graduated in 2003 and joined the Marines in 2005. He married his wife just before shipping out.

I guess I have been bored lately and have gone to see a movie every day for the last 3 days.

I went and watched Babylon A.D. today starring Vin Diesel as Toorop, Michelle Yeoh as Sister Rebeka and Melanie Thierry as Auroa. In the near future, Toorop (Vin Diesel) is a mercenary who takes the job of escorting a woman named Aurora from Central Asia to New York. While he thinks this is just an ordinary mission, he gradually finds out that his guest is carrying twins that have the potential to become the next Messiahs - and everybody wants to get their hands on them.

This movie is like Riddick meets the 5th Element all rolled into one. If you are a Vin Diesal fan, you will like this one.

I went and watched Bangkok Dangerous (not to be confused with the 1999 version) today.

Hitman Joe (Nicolas Cage) goes to Bangkok on an assignment to kill four people. He hires pickpocket Kong (Shahkrit Yamnarm) as his assistant and meets a beautiful mute girl along the way.Joe is given the contract by Bangkok gangsters who communicate with Joe through Kong and a dancer who becomes romantically involved with Kong.Joe breaks his own rule of not getting involved with people on his missions and takes Kong under his wing because he sees Kong as a younger version of himself.

I usually like Nicolas Cage movies. I give this one 3 and half tiger paws.

I went and watched Burn After Reading yesterday starring George Clooney as Harry Pfarrer, Francis McDormand as Linda Lizke, Brad Pitt as Chad Feldheimer, John Malkovich as Osborne Cox and Tilda Swinton as Katie Cox. A disk containing the memoirs of a CIA agent ends up in the hands of two unscrupulous gym employees who attempt to sell it.

I went to see this movie as the trailers represented this movie as being funny and it does have Big Name Stars in it. While our government does have its problems, I find nothing funny in a movie that represents our CIA and other Government Bureaus as all cheating on their spouses, killing civilians and the government covering it all up. While some in the audience at the Cinema where I watched this movie laughed during this film, I just didn’t get the jokes.

I didn’t care for this film. I give it 1 tiger paw.

McCoughn joined the USMC during his Senior year of High School. "He said he needed to do this. He said if he could keep one dad from going to Iraq and he could take his place instead, then he'll feel like he's accomplished something."

Lance Cpl. Ryan T. McCaughn was killed on November 7, 2006 while conducting combat operations in Anbar province, Iraq. He leaves behind his mother, father, step-father and two brothers.

Democrats Sink To New Low

I have been really apathetic this Presidential election. The campaigning has gone on too long. But this time, I have to say something.

It looks like the Democrats have sunk to a new low. The Democrats have been doing this ever since the Clinton’s implemented “Scorched Earth” where they checked into the backgrounds of their political enemies and broadcast any digression through their allies the Liberal Media to cover President Clinton’s multiple infidelities. But this time the Democrats have decided to bring a candidate’s children into the mix. Shame! Shame!

Sarah Palin, McCain’s running mate has been called a bad mother because her daughter, age 17, is pregnant out of wedlock. The media has even attacked, Palin’s daughter. The Democrats are acting like Palin’s daughter is the first teen that has ever become pregnant out of wedlock.

I wonder how the media and these Liberal Democrats would feel if their children were put under such scrutiny? I also want to know why it is only wrong when it’s a Republican that has something like this happen in their family and it’s ok if it is a Democrat. Besides, what business is it of anyone’s anyway? Wasn’t it when President Clinton was getting blowjobs in the Oval Office, that the Democrats said that someone’s personal (sex life) was no one’s business? Or is it another case where it is only ok for Democrats and not for Republicans?

I also find it very revealing that Women’s Rights Groups are joining into the fray and attacking Sarah Palin who is a woman running for Vice President. Here again we see that it is only ok if it is a Democrat and not a Republican.

I liked John McCain’s statement earlier this week when he said, it’s not time to be Democrat or Republican but to be Americans. It seems to me that Democrats are so hungry for power that they forget they are Americans first. It seems to me that Democrats just want power above what is right for this country.

And that is how I see it.

I went to see Henry Poole Is Here today starring Luck Wilson as Henry, Adriana Barraza as Esperanza, Henry’s religious neighbor, and Radha Mitchell as Henry’s other neighbor Dawn Stupek.

Henry has just found out that he has contracted a terminal disease and doesn’t have long to live. Angry and sad, he quits his job and buys a run down house in the old neighborhood where he grew up. Subsisting on pizza, krispy kreme and vodka, Henry just wants to live out the rest of his days shut off from the world in his house. But his neighbors won’t leave him alone.

Then one day Henry sees Esperanza in his back yard staring at a water stain on his stucco wall. Esperanza claims she sees the face of God in the water stain. Henry doesn’t believe and if flabbergasted when he see that Esperanza has brought a Priest to verify the miracle.
The next thing Henry knows, Esperanza is bringing more and more people to see the face of God on his wall. Suddenly it seems that people are getting healed by touching his wall. In a fit of rage Henry knocks down the wall.

And that is all I am going to tell you. So was the wall a miracle? Did it really heal people? Well, just see the movie and draw your own conclusions.

October 12, 2007

Pvt. Nathan Z. Thacker had only been in the country for two weeks before his death, according to the soldier's father, Stephen Thacker.

Thacker's father said his son felt a duty to enlist. "He said it was his job. Even after he got his orders that he was going over there, he said it's his job."

Thacker had attended Guy-Perkins High School in Guy, Arkansas. He earned his GED in 2006, his father said. Thacker enlisted in the Army in April 2007 and completed his training at Fort Benning, Ga. He arrived at Fort Drum in August 2007. His honors include the Purple Heart.

"Nathan was an excellent man," sister Sabrina Black said. "He loved me, I loved him, and Iʼd give anything to have him back."

Pvt. Thacker was killed when an IED was detonated near his vehicle near Kirkuk. Three other soldiers were injured in the attack.

Pvt. Thacker is survived by his parents, siblings and his grandfather.

During the job interview, at which a male governor of the school was present, she wore no veil and was hired. Yet when she turned up for work she was now dressed in full hijab and veil, which disturbed the students, claiming she could not show her face in front of males.

Notice how she tries to evade the perfectly reasonable questions of the interviewer.

Ok, I am coming out of the closet, I can‘t hide it anymore. . I am a secret Horror Movie fan.

I went to see Mirrors today starring Kiefer Sutherland as Ben Carson. If you are expecting Jack Bauer in this one, then you will be disappointed. It also stars, Paula Patton as Amy Carson , Ben’s estranged wife, and Amy Smart as Angela Carson, Ben’s sister.

Ben Carson has seen better days. Its been nearly a year since the volatile detective was suspended from the NYPD for fatally shooting another undercover officer, an accident that not only cost him his job, but fueled the alcoholism and anger that has alienated his wife and kids that has left him crashing on his sister’s couch in Queens.

Desperate to reconnect with his family, Carson takes a job as a night watchman at the burned -out ruins of the Mayflower Department Store. What once was a symbol of prosperity and grandeur now sits decaying in darkness like a ghost ship, destroyed by a massive fire that devoured numerous innocent lives.

As Carson patrols the eerie, charred remains of the store, he begins to notice something sinister about the ornate mirrors that adorn the Mayflower walls. Reflected in the gigantic shimmering glass are horrific images that stuns Carson.

Beyond projecting gruesome images of the past, the mirrors appear to be manipulating reality as well. When Carson sees his own reflection being tortured, he suffers the physical effects of his fractured visions . Suddenly the

I went to see Journey To the Center of the Earth today starring Brendan Fraser as Professor Trevor Anderson,, Josh Hutcherson as Sean Anderson and Anita Briem as Hannah Asgeirsson.

What if everything Jules Verne wrote in the book Journey to the Center of the Earth was true? On a quest to find out what happened to his missing brother, a scientist, his nephew and their mountain guide discover a fantastic and dangerous lost world in the center of the earth.

I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t have the 3D version at my cinema. So the 3D verson will not be available in all areas. I don’t look good in those goofy glasses anyway. Even without the 3D, I liked this one as much as I liked Brendan Fraser’s movie last week. Hmm, I wonder if I am becoming a Brendan Fraser fan? Well he is kinda cute!

Tyson drops Labor Day holiday for Eid al-FitrFriday,

Workers at Tyson Foods' poultry processing plant in Shelbyville will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day, but will instead take the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr in the fall.
A recent press release from the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) stated that a new contract at the Shelbyville facility "implements a new holiday to accommodate the ... Muslim workers at the plant."

The RWDSU stated that "the five-year contract creates an additional paid holiday, Iidal Fitil, a Muslim holiday that occurs toward the end of Ramadan."

Eid al-Fitr falls on Oct. 1 this year. (Read the rest of the story here.)

It is time to do something about this one folks. Write letters or send emails to Tyson Foods protesting this one. Also BOYCOTT all Tyson Foods. Let's make them hurt for taking our traditions away from us and catering to the Muslims.

The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

I went to see The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor today. Brandon Fraser revives his role as Rick O’Connell and Maria Bello takes Rachel Weisz role as Evelyn O’Connell (a mistake, in my opinion), with their grown son Alex, played by Luke Ford try to stop resurrected Emperor Han from becoming immortal. If Empower Han, played by Jet Li, becomes immortal he will try to take over the world. John Hannah reprises his role as Jonathan Carnahan, Evelyn O’Connell’s brother and has all the funny lines in this one.

If you are a Mummy fan, you will probably like this movie as it has all the special effects and campy action that you would expect from a Mummy film.

I liked this one folks. I give it 4 tiger paws.

An Eagle Scout, Thomas M. Martin took on cleaning up an old red train caboose as a service project. "He remodeled it to make it where people could go inside. If you saw it before and looked in it after he was through - it was daylight and dark", said his former principal, Robert Martin, who is no relation. "Tom was involved in Key Club, German Club and band, making All-Region Band his sophomore year", said Robert Martin. "He was a wonderful young man. Those that knew him knew he was funny and outgoing."

Lt. Martin died in Al Busayifi, Iraq of wounds sustained from small-arms fire when insurgents attacked his unit during combat operations. He enlisted in the Army in 1998 after graduating high school and served in Korea before accepting an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 2005.

"He was very polite and respectful. I can't think of him ever overreacting; he had a wonderful, good-natured personality", said Pat Hagge, a family friend. "It's a terrible tragedy; he was a great young man."

Lt. Thomas Martin is survived by his parents, Edmund and Candis.

I went to see X Files 2: I Want to Believe this weekend. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprised their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Mulder and Scully have left the FBI behind them. When a series of women become missing, one of the a FBI agent, the FBI comes to Mulder and Scully and asks them for help because their only leads are from a pedophile ex-priest, played by Billy Connelly, who may or may not be psychic. This role for Connelly is no laughing matter. Amanda Peet plays the role of FBI Agent Dakota WhitneyWritten by Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz, you would expect some of the great paranormal suspense of the TV series. If you are expecting Aliens and Bigfoot, then you will be disappointed. Even die-hard X-files fanatics would find this one lacking.

Try to seek difficult answers from within to even more difficult questions without. Do not blame others for problems that are largely self-created or seek solutions over here when your answers are mostly at home...

Mad Tiger Movie Review

I went to see Batman, The Dark Knight today. This film has all the rough ‘em up explosive plot twists to suit anyone’s taste. I would liken it to a rollercoaster ride that is always taking you to the pentacle dropping you suddenly down. This film has already broken all records for a Midnight Opening. I predict it will rake in records amounts too.

I don’t want to ruin the movie by revealing too much about it. Christian Bale revises his role as the Dark Knight and Protector of Gotham City and plays the part with all the dark power that you could image Batman would have. Maggie Gyllenhaal brings new life to the Rachel Dawes character. Aaron Eckhart plays Harvy Dent the new D.A. of Gotham City. And with the likes of Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman reprising their roles from Batman Begins, you know that the movie has to be good.

And last but certainly not least is the last role of Heath Ledger. His portrayal of the Joker is beyond words. He took this character and made him so Evil, so Psychotic and so Real it was almost frightening. It didn’t even seem like it was Heath Ledger under all that cake makeup. I would say that he carried this film with his performance of the Joker. I first noticed Heath Ledger in The Patriot and I knew then that he would be a great actor. I predict that he will win the Oscar for this film. I just wish that he was here to receive it. It makes me sad that he is gone.

This film is NOT a film for children but for all you adults out there, I give this film 5 tiger paws.

Wednesday's Hero

Spc. Kisha Mackerney isn't being profiled today because of something she did on the battlefield. She's being profiled because her spirit and determination. In 2002, Makerney joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard out of a sense of patriotism, because, as she put it, "I love our country and our people." Between 2004 and 2005, she served in Iraq as a gunner and helped provide battalion security. She returned home in early 2005 and was in a terrible motorcycle accident on June 25, 2005. The front wheel of her brand new bike had blown out and sent her flying into a highway sign. She looked up at her now mangled bike and was angry. That's when she noticed that her left leg below the knee was missing. The first thing she thought of when she saw her leg was that her military career was over.

Makerney pulled herself out of the ditch that she had landed in and was able to flag down a passing motorist. She was taken a hospital in Hugo, Oklahoma before being flown to Dallas, Texas.

As soon as word spread about her accident, her fellow soldiers, her second family, rallied and rushed to her bedside. "Even before I was out of surgery they were waiting in the halls," she said.

22 years old from Peoria, Arizona

"It was very tough not to be touched by him in some way," said Terri Schall, Sgt. Kenneth Schall's mother.

Kenneth Schall was enrolled at Glendale Community College and was studying to become a history teacher when the country was attacked on September 11, 2001. The event spurred him to join the Army. He served a four and a half month tour in Iraq in 2004 and returned in February of 2005.

Terri Schall last spoke to her son on Mother's Day in 2005. "He sounded great — tired — but he said he was doing OK", she said. Sgt. Kenneth Schall died when the Humvee he was riding in was involved in an accident in Yusafiyah, Iraq.

Along with his mother, Sgt. Schall is survived by his father and two younger siblings.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

This Weeks Hero Was Suggested by Mary Ann

Staff Sgt. Jude Voss
1st Battalion, 3d Special Forces Group (Airborne)

His courage illustrates a combat truth to these veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam: Soldiers arenʼt thinking about glory or ideals in the midst of a battle. They fight for the men to the left and right of them.

And that's just what SSgt. Jude Voss did in September of 2006 when, without consideration to his safety, SSgt. Voss ran through enemy fire and the burning, smoking debris of a truck to rescue Sgt. 1st Class Greg Stube. Sgt. Stube was in a bad way. Uniform burning and legs busted, but because of the actions of SSgt. Voss he is alive today.

Because of his actions that day, SSgt. Voss was nominated for and received the Silver Star Medal for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action. "I did what everybody out there would do" Voss said. "I was just the closest guy."

July 24, 2005 & July 30, 2005

Sgt. Ronnie "Rod" Shelley and Sgt. John F. Thomas became best friends in the Georgia Army National Guard.

They both were ex-Marines, both about the same age, and both enjoyed searching for arrowheads and fishing together. As their friendship grew, Thomas often came over to Shelley’s house for steaks and ribs barbecued by his friend. And when their infantry unit was sent to Iraq in May of 2005, they went to war together.

When their unit was mobilized for combat duty in Iraq, Shelley promised to watch out for Thomas. "Ronnie said, 'Don't you worry, I'll bring him back safely,"' said Thomas' grandfather. But neither Sgt. Thomas or Sgt. Shelley made it back safely. Sgt. Thomas was killed July 24, 2005 by a roadside bomb near Baghdad. And Sgt. Shelley was killed six days later on July 30 by another roadside bomb, also near Baghdad.

Shelley was a family man, married with three children, who was obsessed with having a neat yard, his wife said. "The grass had to be two inches," she said. "If the neighbor mowed the grass, Rod had to mow. He also wanted the biggest, baddest lawn mower."

She said she fell in love with his "gorgeous blue ... eyes," and "he had a laid back attitude. I could not make him mad."

Thomas was married but had no children. His grandparents said he dreamed of becoming a forest ranger. "John wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail. Now the only trail he can walk is the trail in heaven," the grandfather said.

Mrs. Thomas, wiping back tears, said the soldier felt responsible for the others in his unit. "He cared for people," she said. "That's why he had so many friends. People cared for him."

Killed alongside Sgt. Shelley were Staff Sgt. David R. Jones Sr., Sgt. 1st Class Victor A. Anderson and Sgt. Jonathon C. Haggin and killed alongside Sgt. Thomas were Army Spc. Jacques E. Brunson, Army Staff Sgt. Carl R. Fuller and Army Sgt. James O. Kinlow.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Chris Davila
From Sierra Vista, Arizona

On the sixth anniversary of the terrorist attack on the United States, Petty Officer 2nd Class Chris Davila raised an American flag over Camp Korean Village, Iraq, he brought with him from Arizona.

Tuesday, May 6, 2008, Sierra Vista firefighter and emergency medical technician Chris Davila presented that flag to Fire Chief Randy Redmond as fellow firefighters looked on. Monday, May 5, 2008, was Davila’s first day back on the job with the department after being gone for nearly nine months, with seven of those months deployed as a Navy Reserve corpsman serving with a Marine unit near the Jordanian and Syrian border area in Iraq.

And, as luck would have it, on his first shift saw him responding to a blaze in Sierra Vista. "Right back to work," he said with a laugh.
